Walt Disney World

I have been meaning to do this the past couple of days but I have been recovering from one of the most fun/tiring vacations that I have been on in a long time! This will be a long post as I have a lot of photos to show! To start our journey we woke up at 3:30 AM to get ready and leave for the airport which is 2 hours away. After the drive and a minor freak out(by me) we finally arrived and boarded the tiny plane(I hate walking out on the tarmac to board). Both flights were smooth and we arrived in Orlando around lunch! Tyler picked us up and our whirlwind weekend began. We went to our resort which I highly recommend! Port Orleans French Quarter is the smallest of the Disney resorts so even though it was booked it wasn’t even crowded and the grounds were so pretty and well kept. Our room was near the river and the entire resort had just been renovated. Next we went to meet up with Laura who had picked up our tickets the week before and she even let us into the park for the day which was a surprise. So promptly we decided to cancel our dinner reservations and go play in the park for the rest of the day!! We headed to Hollywood Studios(MGM) and of course rode some favorites like Rockin’ Rollecoaster and Tower of Terror and we ate at Pizza Planet! After the park closed we headed back to the resort for some pool time in the awesome Mardi Gras themed pool. Mike’s friend Scott came to hang out and we had a great time! It was an extremely long day but I didn’t even feel tired!

The next day we had breakfast reservations at Chef Mickey’s in the Contemporary resort. We were out the door at 6:30 AM as our reservations were a little after 7. And all three of us were pretty excited about the Mickey waffles and of course the characters!! Breakfast was delicious and it was a perfect start to a great day at the Magic Kingdom. The park actually was not that busy and we rode pretty much everything we wanted to by noon. We were all pretty exhausted and hungry again haha so we went back to the resort where I took a much needed nap and the boys rode the boat to Downtown Disney to dine at Earl of Sandwich. After a dip in the pool we were refreshed and ready to head back to the park to ride some more and for the fireworks! This was my favorite day we spent in Florida. Everything was pretty much perfect!

Delicious breakfast

Saturday we awoke early again and headed to the cafeteria at the resort and indulged in some beignets for breakfast and then we proceeded to Epcot where we began by going to The Land where we were given a wonderful backstage tour from our old boss Les. So much had changed there and everything looked beautiful! I cannot wait to return again to see what they have added and improved. Next, we proceeded to meet up with the group for the annual drinking around the world. Everything started out great but as the day progressed it got hotter and hotter. Temperatures were record breaking and it was ridiculously hot. I spent most of the day trying to find any bit of shade I could. It was a great day with a lot of wonderful food such as fish and chips in the UK, bratwurst in Germany and Mike had some Chinese food. Later Nancy came to meet us and we had some Mexican beverages! Delish! It was wonderful seeing everyone that day. We arrived before the park opened and left after closing! Needless to say we were exhausted and were all asleep by 11!

Beautiful new water garden in the Tropics Greenhouse at The Land

Although we were all exhausted we awoke refreshed and headed to Hollywood Studios again to culminate our trip. We rode the new Star Tours ride twice, and truth be told I enjoyed it more than I thought! We also finally made it onto Toy Story Mania!! Lunch was at the Sci-Fi Dine in Theater where we ate in our own car. After one final ride on the Tower of Terror(my favorite ride in all the parks) it was time to go 😦 Back to the airport we went and headed back to Mississippi. It was a very memorable trip and I cannot wait until the next vacation but maybe next time we will plan something with a little more relaxing as we are still recovering from last weekend!

Us in our car at the Sci-Fi Dine in Theater!

I need to give a special thanks to Kim and Rob for taking care of our precious Pumpkin for the weekend! And a thanks to Tyler for some of the photos!

The song that I am listening to has a great summery and beachy feel. It’s a perfect summer song and it really makes me want to go to an island and just relax! Enjoy! Knee Deep – Zac Brown Band featuring Jimmy Buffett

Excited

Me circa 1989

I cannot remember a time(in my adult life)when I have been so excited about a vacation! I don’t know if it’s because I have not been to Disney World in two years or if its just because I am just a big kid. Disney has always been a special place to me. I remember going there with my Mom(who loved it too) and telling her that I wanted to work there when I grew up. At that time I wanted to be a performer of course but I did fulfill a childhood dream of working at that amazing place! I think it has only become more of a special place since I have made some wonderful friends and have lifelong memories from my time there. Oh and I guess it’s quite special because Mike and I met there and I have been enamored with him ever since!

The Cox’s and I on their first family visit to WDW!!

At this time I need to give a very special thank you to my good friend Meghan without whom this trip would have been very, very expensive! Thanks so much and we’ll miss you while you are in Italy! Ciao for now!

Home Sweet Home

Last weekend I returned to the great state of South Carolina for Sallee Anne’s bachelorette party. There were eight of us girls and we all headed down to Myrtle Beach for a weekend of fun in the sun! Unfortunately, one of the days was rainy and cold but we made up for it with a shopping day! Actually the entire weekend was a break from the heat we have already started to experience here with temps above 85 almost everyday. I ended up having a blast and got to hang out with some good friends and see some of my family. I cannot wait to return for the wedding in a couple of months 🙂

The song I am listening to actually turned out to be a kind of theme song for the trip. Its fun and light hearted and fit with the vibe of this particular group! Enjoy! Bruno Mars – The Lazy Song

Mike and I are headed to Walt Disney World next week and I am so excited I think my head will explode! Stay tuned for cute pictures(hopefully)!

Birthday Fun!

Wow, I need to keep up with this better! I wanted to do something special for Mike’s birthday this year(making up for that whole Biergarten debacle two years ago) so once a friend and I realized that her boyfriend and Mike’s birthdays were in the same week we decided to throw them a little surprise get together! We had been planning it since March. It was really hard to keep the secret and also cover our tracks. All of this gave me much stress however they were both surprised so it was worth it! The party was at the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge on a Sunday evening and the weather could not have been more perfect. We had a pretty good turn out and it ended up being a lot of fun.

I will be quite busy over the next few weeks with SC and Disney! But I will make sure I post and take plenty of pictures.

Stay southern,

Yummy

It has been a few days since I have blogged so I figured I would catch up. We went to Mike’s parents in Georgia for Easter weekend and we were going nonstop the whole time we were there. I had a fabulous time(as I always do, the Arnold’s never disappoint). We ate some yummy(terrible for me) food but since we jogged while we were there I think it counteracted it(thank goodness)! While jogging on the trails in Peachtree City we realized that our bodies are not really conditioned for any elevation changes haha. We figured that out the hard way as we ran those hills up and down.

The Egg Game!!

I am always thinking about what the next meal is. Its a blessing and a curse. So the other day when Mike suggested a recipe that I had made before it made me happy that someone had taken that responsibility out of my hands. The recipe was one that I found when we first started eating healthier. I liked it because it sounded delicious and easy and it turned out to be both(If Mike requests something then you know he liked it). So I made  it last night and it didn’t disappoint and I highly recommend it. I promise it doesn’t taste low cal at all. The only thing you taste is yummy cheesy goodness 🙂 I served mine with some brown rice that I mixed salsa in for extra flavor. I hope you enjoy the Mexican Chicken Casserole as much as we did.

Crazy Weather

On Friday we had some severe weather(as did most of the country). I have never experienced anything quite like it. Sirens wailed all day alerting us to seek cover. Although I never actually saw a tornado that day it was kind of freaky. It was so weird how not 5 minutes after the warning was lifted it was sunny and beautiful, we even took Pumpkin for a walk later on that evening and everything was fine only a couple of downed limbs and a lot of water was displaced. I managed to snap a few pics.

View from my office window, it was actually much darker than this pic conveys.
As you can see the street lights were still on(this was at about 9:00 am)
This weekend was kind of low key! We had date night Friday and went out for sushi(yum) and Saturday we ran in the morning and then went to a local fish fry with Kristin and Dan(I know not diet friendly, however Saturday is the cheat day, and I have lost about 13 lbs so far, so I deserve it). We also went to Tupelo to pick up my bridesmaid dress for Sallee Anne’s wedding! Sunday was a relaxing day around the house! I am trying to get my relaxing in because in the next 6 weeks I have a lot going on!! I am looking forward to this short week at work and for a nice weekend away at the Arnold’s with Mike and Pumpkin 🙂

Random

On the way home for lunch yesterday Mike spotted something odd in a yard while we were stopped at a stop sign. It appeared to be a muskrat. After I got back to work I looked them up and apparently they are creatures of the night and like to be around water. Well this one was eating on the side of the road at noon sitting next to a storm drain. I think it there was something wrong with it.

*Side Note: As you may or may not know, I am a huge music person(I almost always have it playing if I am alone and or while I am cooking, cleaning and just plain living). Since I have been here I feel as if  I haven’t found any really good music that I just want to play over and over again(thats the tell-tell sign that I think a song is awesome). The last song that I obsessed over like that was If I Die Young by The Band Perry. You can ask Mike about the amount of times he had to hear that song haha. However a few weeks ago I finally opened my ears to Adele’s Rolling In The Deep and I’m obsessed. Idk why I didn’t like this song earlier as I love Adele and have her debut album(which is phenomenal). So I highly recommend this one! Rolling In the Deep- Adele

Super Bulldog Weekend Part 2 and Fishing

I love all things college football but I love nothing more than tailgating. There is nothing like getting up and heading out 7 hours before the game to just stand around and talk to people and eat delicious food. Oh and did I mention that its okay to drink outside in public? I am not a huge beer person but there is nothing better than a cold beer on a hot day! I know I am way too into this 🙂 The weather was beautiful here in Starkville on Saturday. It was about  85 degrees and it made me think to myself is this really April? What am I in for this summer? Anyway, we had a wonderful time with some friends and enjoyed a nice day outside. The Maroon and White game was fun, but I missed the whole actual game day experience as there is usually a lot more going on. Side note: yes I did try my first crawfish. They were actually pretty tasty however I don’t really care for eating things with the heads still attached.

Sunday was a very eventful day. We ran outside for the first time and it went pretty well! Mike and I were both surprised at how much we actually enjoyed it. I am actually looking forward to my next run! We also went fishing at the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge where we had quite the adventure, but not before it took like an hour to get a fishing license. When we got out on the boat and went to bait our hooks we realized that we left the bait in the car back in Starkville. Then one of us(not naming names) hooked a tree and then accidentally knocked the rod in the water, but then we were glad that the rod was attached to the tree so we could save it! After a day of fishing with out even one bite we decided to call it done but then it took us about 50 tries to back the trailer down the ramp, as we are both new to pulling a trailer. After all this we were exhausted! Oh did I mention that I am sun burnt, like pretty badly? But we had a great time and that’s what counts! I would definitely do it again. Here are a few pictures of the refuge and our day on the water.

It’s Raining Turtles!?

Yesterday morning was one of those times when you say to yourself is this for real? I woke up as per usual around 7:30 and took Pumpkin outside. Our back ‘yard,’ if you can call it that, is a pad of dirt and a patio with a tall wooden fence as in we cannot see anything back there except the trees above our heads. As she is exploring I hear some rustling in the tree above but I just assume that it is a squirrel as they are quite active in that tree. I was mistaken as I look to my left and see a divot in the ground and turtle laying next to it. This kind of weirded me out so I went and got Mike and we came to the conclusion that the turtle fell from the tree as it was not damaged or hurt as if it maybe was dropped by a predator. Although I had no idea that turtles could climb trees. I know that there is probably another explanation as to how it got up there, but I’ll never know. Pumpkin of course had a great time barking and carrying on at the poor thing. She even dug in the dirt so much that she tracked the mud in and ended up having a surprise bath. She was less than happy about that! Mike looked it up and identified it as a box turtle. He put it outside the fence but I said that if it came back that we should just keep it as a pet back there! Its name will be Tortuga. There have been no more sightings.

Super Bulldog Weekend!

So yesterday marked the 1st day of Super Bulldog Weekend here on campus. Although I have never experienced this I have been looking forward to it since the last home football game in November. The festivities for Thursday included a movie night at the stadium. One of the things I am most impressed with here at MSU, besides the beautiful and immaculately kept campus, is the huge jumbotron at the stadium. So when it was advertised that there was going to be a free movie screening I knew I was going to make it a point to go! I wasn’t disappointed. I am still amazed and the quality of the picture and the sheer size of that thing. I wonder what we need to do to get one of those at Williams Brice? Anyway, we had a great time with 3 other couples and enjoyed a perfect family friendly movie.
